I once came upon a rose
so deep crimson
so deep of red blood
beauty naught he knows.
He sat tall and proud
for all the world to see
but yet, drew up his leaves
hid himself from the crowd
but a petal bare
to gaze upon
no illusion had He drawn
as dew dropped in gracious tears
Such beauty, such love
sat upon a blood red rose
i begged Him to let me touch
but such sharp thorns
He was so tender, such deep red
stood out upon so dull a world
and yet i came, day by day
fed Him my love, my tears.
Never to take Him
from his frail perch
to kill such a thing, to do such a sin
not deserved by one so pure
One day i came, to find him waiting
Leaning to me, his thorns no longer sharp
for not only had my tears fed him
but of his love had partaken I
I came to him, and reached out my hand.
a blood red petal dropped, and with it a promise
of truth and love, and secrets untold.
but to come with each petal i hold.
